Cold Weather Camping Gear Tents

15 February, 2008 (22:08) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

I’m tall and there’s nothing worse than having your head or feet touch the sides of the tent when it’s cold outside.  The Eureka Wabamkimi 2 has a 7′6″ length for us tall campers.  The piece of camping gear was designed exclusively for northern climates, the Wabakimi is the ideal cold weather backpacking tent. As camping equipment goes, Eureka has done it’s job again.

Emergency Camping Equipment

12 February, 2008 (06:47) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

While on the subject of water filtration, it’s a good idea to have emergency water filtration as part of your camping equipment in case you regular filter fails.  I know, but what about the weight.  Check out the Aquamira Frontier filter.  This filter is literally a straw with a filter and can handle up to 20 gallons and so small and lite it won’t be noticed.  Also, due to it’s design, there’s little chance of cross comtamination since you’re filtering directly from a source.  Keep one with your emergency supplies.

Water Treatment Drops For Your Camping Gear

12 February, 2008 (06:39) | Emergency Survival Kits, Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

Don’t you wish you could just drink from that cold running mountain stream and enjoy the taste of fresh water.  The typical chemical water treatment usually spoils the taste with a hint of chlorine or iodine taste.  There’s a two part solution water treatment that is a must for your camping gear.  Aquamira water purification drops utilize chlorine dioxide and can treat the water with no after taste.  Additionally, this approach is less suceptable to temperature and works quickly.

Use Your Camping Gear For Disaster Preparedness

5 February, 2008 (17:38) | Disaster Survival, Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

In our disaster preparedness talks we often talk about the typical emergency supplies of food, water and first aid.  One thing to remember is that big stack of camping gear is a vital part of your disaster preparedness and emergency needs.  During an emergency your home might be damaged to the point it’s unsafe to be in, that’s where your camping equipment comes in.  A tent, sleeping bag and stove can make a huge difference in your comfort and safety.  Be sure to have it accessable, not only for camping but in case of an emergency.  FEMA has some great resources as well.

Classic Camping Gear Svea Backpacking Stove

5 February, 2008 (17:03) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

I’ve been amazed since the Christmas rush and even into January that our top selling backpacking stove is a classic Svea. Camping gear has continually improved with new designs and lightweight materials with a lot of great new camping stoves out now. However, there is still alot of nostalgia associated with camping of things we remember growing up. I still like the smell of an musty full canvas tent and pumping up the Coleman camp stove to get that perfect blue flame for frying crisp bacon. Looks like the Optimus Svea falls into the same category.

Gourmet Camping Equipment, Rotisserie Dining

1 February, 2008 (19:13) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

I always like to eat well when I camp, especially when I car camp and can take along the extra camping equipment.  This Hobo Camping Rotisserie is great, especially when there’s a large group for a family gathering at a camp ground or just at a park for a picnic.  It’s simple to use and the motor runs on batteries.  You can also mix and match the meats due to it’s basket design.  This is a fun one to have for your next event. See it in action on You Tube.

Nachos And Camping Gear

29 January, 2008 (00:44) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

What do nachos and camping gear have to do with each other? There’s a very simple camping table that is great for sitting around the camp fire or for beside your folding camp chair but it’s called the Nacho camp table. Now, if we can just figure out how to get the microwave to the wilderness for nachos, life couldn’t get much better (just kidding, I still like to rough it and can melt the cheese by a roaring fire or dutch oven). This is a nice piece of camping equipment.

Unique Water Filter For Your Camping Equipment

23 January, 2008 (05:30) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

We’ve just added a unique and handy water filter to our line of camping equipment.  The Aquamira Frontier filter is basically a straw with a built in filter and can handle up to 20 gallons.  You can bend over a stream and drink directly from the water through the filter.  This method has little chance for cross contamination and makes a great back up for your camping gear

Camping equipment going high tech, powered camping tents

19 January, 2008 (01:41) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

Wow, talk about “cushy” camping, the Eureka N!ergy 1210 Family Tent has gone high tech.  These camping tents come with the convenience of built in power.  I remember when a high tech camping tent in your camping equipment meant it had a floor and didn’t smell too bad of musty canvass.  Eureka tents are the cutting edge.

Bugs and Birds And Your Fancy GPS Camping Gear

10 January, 2008 (03:51) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

I was tickled to find that my new fancy GPS unit also was able to determine altitude and barometric pressure along with all the other great things.  As I’ve previously mentioned, it’s still good to know the basics to supplement your fancy camping gear.  Did you know that birds and insects tend to fly lower than normal in heavy moisture laden air indicating that rain is likely.  Also, insect activity often increases before a storm while bee activity increases before fair weather - put that in your GPS.  It’s also good to check with the weather services before any trip to back up the bee’s and GPS.
