Camping Gear Essentials, Great Food

24 March, 2008 (17:52) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

Part of the joy of the outdoors is to enjoy great food. Good backpacking food is an essential part of your camping gear but you don’t want to lug around heavy items. So much backpacking food tastes “blah” but the Cache Lake line is fantastic and easy. The dishes are also unique. I especially like the frying pan bread - much like a good restaurant style focaccia. You can’t go wrong with this great line of backpacking food for your camping equipment and supplies.

Camping Gear Easy Water Filtration

18 March, 2008 (04:08) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

As part of my camping gear, I take a sport bottle that allows me easy water filtration on the trail.  I keep my trusty water filter handy for larger filtration needs but sometimes it’s nice not to have to get out the hoses and just fill up my sport bottle and drink.  This sport bottle has a built in water filter that filters down to the ghirdia levels.  No need to worry about cross contamination of tubes, etc.  This is a must have for my camping equipment and is from the trusted Aquamira folks.

Camping Gear Below, Boat On Top

When you’ve got too much camping gear and want to take the kayak along, throw it on top or in a triailer.  A good kayak rack will keep your boat safe and secure traveling to the mountains and white water.  If you have multiple canoes and kayaks, take along a lightweight kayak trailer to haul them along.  You can even add racks to take along the mountain bikes.  A great source for everything kayak is Paddling.net.

Flat Barbecue Grill And Barbecue Supplies

2 March, 2008 (02:05) | Barbecue Supplies | By: Wood Chuck

Ever had a big event and wanted to grill up a ton of hamburgers or a mass of chicken for a hungry crowd?  Do you have the right barbecue supplies to pull it off?  One of the easiest ways is with a flat barbecue grill.  Not only can you cook for a crowd but you can store this easily when not in use by simply taking off the legs.  Find great recipes at the BBQ portal.

Disaster Preparedness Emergency Radio And Flashlight

2 March, 2008 (01:58) | Disaster Survival | By: Wood Chuck

We always seem to picture a major event that we need to have our disaster preparedness plan and emergency supplies.  However, a simple power outage can use some of these supplies.  The other day we had a power outage and I was fumbling around trying to find batteries.  Since then, I’ve ordered a few of the forever flashlights and radios to have around.  See what is all on an emergency kit at the FEMA website.

Inflatable Kayaks For Your Camping Gear

1 March, 2008 (20:08) | Hiking Gear | By: Wood Chuck

We just mentioned the folding canoe for your camping gear but how about an inflatable kayak.  These kayaks are becoming extremely popular, even among the die hard kayakers.  What’s great is the portability to be able to get back to the out of the way places for the best whitewater.  Also, these kayaks are tough.  There’s an add for the Sea Eagle kayak showing it being pulled across the snow by a team of dogs.  These things are a blast.
